“Faces and Thoughts” – A Photography Exhibition by Algimantas Žižiūnas

On 7 August at 3:30 PM, Vilnius Town Hall will host the opening of “Faces and Thoughts”, a photography exhibition by renowned Lithuanian photographer Algimantas Žižiūnas (1940–2023).

The Lithuanian Central State Archives invite visitors to explore the exhibition and discover portraits of outstanding figures from Lithuania’s cultural, scientific, political, educational, and public life, captured by the distinguished photographer Algimantas Žižiūnas. Each photograph is accompanied by handwritten reflections, insights, and life observations by the portrayed individuals—often thoughtful and occasionally witty—adding a deeply personal dimension to the images. The exhibition features forty photographs selected from a series of more than 1,800 portraits, revealing not only the faces of these remarkable individuals but also their values, worldviews, and the spirit of their time.

The opening event will feature a violin performance by maestro Andrius Krevnevičius. Representatives of the Lithuanian Central State Archives, the photographer’s family, and invited guests will introduce the exhibition and reflect on Algimantas Žižiūnas’s creative legacy.

Algimantas Žižiūnas (1940–2023) was an acclaimed Lithuanian photographer, photojournalist, local historian, and public figure, officially recognised as a professional artist. One of Lithuania’s most distinguished photographers, he documented the country’s cultural, social, and everyday life for more than six decades. In 2009, he donated his entire photographic archive to the Lithuanian Central State Archives, ensuring the preservation of his life’s work for future generations.
