Rethinkers Club Invites You to Discover the Architecture of Gallery 1986 with Its Co-Creator, Giedrė Datenytė

On 22 September at 7:00 pm, the conscious design community Rethinkers Club invites guests to a special event at Gallery 1986, one of Vilnius’ most distinctive cultural venues. Its architecture and transformation will be presented by architect Giedrė Datenytė, one of the creators behind the project.

Located in a former radio factory, the space spans more than 1,000 square metres and is now best known as a venue for contemporary music and culture. This time, however, visitors will be invited to experience it from a different perspective: as an architectural project in which the building’s industrial character was not concealed but instead became the starting point for its new identity.

During the event, Giedrė Datenytė will share how the former factory spaces were adapted to serve a new purpose, which original elements were preserved, and how architecture, colour, light and materiality helped shape the distinctive atmosphere of Gallery 1986.

The restrained, monumental interior transforms with the natural light entering around the perimeter of the building. The same space reveals itself differently during the day, in the evening and at night, allowing the architecture to become not merely a backdrop for events but an active part of the experience.

Giedrė Datenytė is an architect, a former partner at WALL architecture studio and a lecturer in the Interior Design programme at the Vilnius Academy of Arts. The Gallery 1986 interior was created by the WALL architects team: Giedrė Datenytė, Donatas Laucius, Monika Zemlickaitė, Akvilė Mišeikytė and Ugnė.

The event offers a rare opportunity to experience this iconic Vilnius venue outside its usual party setting, hear the story behind its creation and speak directly with one of the project’s authors. It is intended for professionals working in architecture, interiors, design and urban culture, as well as anyone interested in the thoughtful revival of existing buildings and their adaptation to contemporary life.

Rethinkers Club is a conscious design community founded by Eglė Šlipaitytė and Darija Ilevičiūtė-Zaveckienė. It brings together professionals and enthusiasts from the fields of architecture, interiors, art and culture. Through in-person events and online conversations, the community invites participants to discover exceptional spaces and meet the people behind them, while exploring building revival, heritage, reuse and the long-term value of design.
