Durys | Autumn Equinox in Vilnius

Following the turning wheel of the year, the Vilnius Ethnic Culture Centre invites you to pause together at its most striking milestones. As the autumn equinox approaches, take a moment to immerse yourself in the beauty of the season and reflect on the quiet time ahead.

This year, the boundary between light and darkness will be marked by the opening of the DURYS (en. Doors) on Stalo Hill—a symbolic farewell to the season of light and a welcome to the cool autumn evenings. Experiencing this transition together will bring warmth, hope, and the strength to embrace the coming darkness as we retreat into our cozy spaces.

The autumn equinox celebration, DURYS, will take place on September 22 at 7:30 p.m. The sculptures, which will be adorned with flames, are the work of Rytas Jonas Belevičius and Rūta Ona Čigriejūtė. During the event, texts by Gailė Vanagienė will be read by Laurynas Janulis. A dance performance will be presented by the Kinetic Theater troupe of Vilnius University and the “Viduramžiai LT” troupe of fakirs. The atmosphere of the event will also be enhanced by students from Vilnius city schools creating patterns with candles.
