BEYOND THE PRESENT: LNDT 87th SEASON PRESENTATION

Where there is a horizontal line of time, there is also a vertical one, just as there are everyday life and eternity, a moment and infinity. So we asked ourselves: is time really a problem? And what horizon would open up before us if, instead of abstract time, we identified the concrete person acting within it as the central theme?

The 87th season of LNDT raises questions about the cyclical nature of time and the ever-repeating present. In the upcoming performances, the creators’ attention will focus not so much on the signs of the present as on the same recurring, restless human being and their contradictions, as well as on themes of human nature and fate.

In presenting the 87th season, we want to talk about time more closely and in greater depth. For this, we have chosen a symbolic date – the autumn equinox (September 22), when time allows light and darkness to share the day equally and we begin moving towards a period of reflection.

Insights into time will be shared by ethnologist Libertas Klimka, historian Aurimas Švedas and physicist Mažena Mackoit-Sinkevičienė. The creators of upcoming LNDT premieres will also explore the connections between time and their own works, sharing how the theme of time and its perception unfolds in their forthcoming productions. The event will also feature members of the LNDT Artistic Council Yana Ross and Mindaugas Nastaravičius, as well as LNDT General Director Martynas Budraitis.

The Lithuanian National Drama Theatre will present six premieres in its 87th season:

• September 16 – “Madame Bovary”, directed by Oliver Frljić
• November 19 – “Antigone”, directed by Kamilė Gudmonaitė
• February 6 – “Fear”, directed by Kotryna Siaurusaitytė
• March 13 – “Big Data”, directed by Augustas Gornatkevičius
• April 15 – “The Caretaker”, directed by Rokas Lažaunykas
• May 29 – “Pynių pynė”, directed by Birutė Banevičiūtė

The event is free of charge. It will take place on September 22 at 17:30 in the LNDT foyer.
