Europos Parkas – A Unique Museum in Its Collection, Landscape, and Special Aura
Renowned artist Magdalena Abakanowicz once said: “Europos Parkas is a place where art from all over the world meets people from all over the world.”
Europos Parkas is an open-air museum of modern and contemporary art, operating since 1991. Its founder, Gintaras Karosas, is a sculptor and the creator of the museum’s artistic landscape. In 1987, at the age of nineteen, he discovered a suitable site for the park near Vilnius — at that time, an abandoned forest. In 1991, on one of the first cleared fields, he erected a sculpture marking the beginning of Europos Parkas.
Europos Parkas is the first museum in Lithuania established by a non-governmental organization. Across 55 hectares of artistic landscape, it exhibits over a hundred works by artists from various countries around the world. Here, the language of art gives meaning to the geographical center of the European continent, as determined by the French National Geographic Institute.
