Film Screening “Balys Gajauskas – Time Not Lost”

The Lithuanian Freedom Struggles Research Department of the Vytautas the Great War Museum is closing the outdoor events season at the place cherished and nurtured by Albinas Kentra by presenting the documentary feature “Balys Gajauskas – Time Not Lost”, dedicated to commemorating the 100th anniversary of the birth of B. Gajauskas, a participant in both armed and non-violent resistance.

In the documentary, it is as if Balys himself tells the story of how he could never accept, under any circumstances, that his homeland was occupied. People who utter words that may harm them are sometimes said to have missed an opportunity to remain silent. However, through the story of his own life, which led to many years in Soviet labour camps, Balys created an unprecedented case in the history of Lithuania and perhaps even the world.

B. Gajauskas spent 37 years in Soviet prisons, labour camps and exile for the freedom of his homeland and ours. He was released in 1988. He was one of the signatories of the Act of the Re-Establishment of the State of Lithuania of March 11.

B. Gajauskas is remembered by his fellow prisoners Algirdas Petrusevičius, Stasys Balkaitis, Aleksas Pašilis and Stanislovas Juškevičius; political colleagues Zita Šličytė and Algirdas Butkevičius; his nephew Arūnas Šulskis; and his daughter Gražina Gajauskaitė.

The event will begin on September 22 at 20:00 at Totorių St. 9 / Labdarių St. 10, Vilnius, at the newly established Lithuanian Freedom Struggles Research Centre.

The film will be screened outdoors, so please dress warmly. We will take care of the tea.
