The National museum – Palace of the Grand Dukes of Lithuania, together with the Wawel Royal Castle – State Art Collections (Zamek Królewski na Wawelu – Państwowe Zbiory Sztuki) and the Polish Institute in Vilnius (Instytut Polski w Wilnie), invites visitors to discover the southern neighbor of the Grand Duchy of Lithuania and the Kingdom of Poland – the Ottoman Empire.
The exhibition features more than 60 authentic artifacts: paintings, textiles, goldsmithing and ceramic works, coins and medals, and weapons from the collections of the Wawel Royal Castle and the Palace of the Grand Dukes of Lithuania. The centerpiece and highlight of the exhibition is a unique, oval-shaped, double-pole Turkish tent from the first half of the 17th century – the only one of its kind in Europe to have survived intact – which is believed to have belonged to Kara Mustafa (1634/1635–1683), the Grand Vizier of the Ottoman Empire.
