Opening Windows: Exhibition and New Artwork at Europos Parkas

New artwork Roxana Viotto’s work Opening Windows exhibited in Europos Parkas this summer.

The curator of exhibition Enzo Fornaro notes: “Roxana Viotto’s sculpture explores the tensions between tactile and visual textures, boundary and openness, weight and lightness, matter and emptiness. The sculpture resembles a vertical window within the park’s landscape – a poetic instrument inviting the gaze to penetrate beyond everyday life and to experience space with a broader, contemplative vision.”

The public presentation of Roxana Viotto’s work Opening Windows is part of the project implemented by Europos Parkas Museum, An Exhibition of Italian Artists in the Open-Air Museum Europos Parkas. The project and the realization of the sculpture are funded by the Lithuanian Council for Culture, the Vilnius District Municipality, and EF International Service Art.

The opening of the sculpture and meeting with the artist will take place at Europos Parkas on Sunday, 16 August, at 12 AM. The sculptor’s husband, Miguel Navarro – a professional musician who plays various musical instruments – will also participate.

Europos Parkas is an open-air museum of modern and contemporary art that dates back to 1991, when Lithuania regained independence. It was founded by Gintaras Karosas, a sculptor and the author of the museum’s entire artistic landscape.

Here, the language of art is used to give meaning to the geographical centre of the continent of Europe as established by the French National Geographic Institute. The artistic landscape spanning an area of 55 hectares is home to more than one hundred installations by artists from different countries of the world.

Europos Parkas is being developed as a uniform, congruous ensemble of nature and artwork. The expressive relief of the Park, its knolls and dips, pocket ponds, and artwork make an indivisible whole.

The museum features impressive work by the most prominent contemporary artists such as Magdalena Abakanowicz, Sol LeWitt, Dennis Oppenheim, Beverly Pepper, to name a few. Europos Parkas is also home to the sculpture made from TVs – a Guinness world record – as well as the Educational Centre with its sculptural architecture and other pieces of landscape art by Gintaras Karosas.
