Sustainability is often seen today as a modern pursuit, but the archaeology exhibition “Used Again” invites visitors to view it as a daily reality for prehistoric communities. In a world of limited resources, repairing, reusing, and repurposing objects was not a choice, but a necessity.
The exhibition presents archaeological finds that reveal how people extended the “life” of objects — from carefully repaired jewelry and tools to items given entirely new functions. Traces of repair speak not only to practical solutions but also to emotional connections with objects and their value to both individuals and communities. Some items were refurbished or repaired even when they were no longer suitable for everyday use — for example, for use in funerary rituals.
The exhibition offers a long-term perspective on sustainability and reminds us that creative adaptation, responsible resource use, and respect for objects were integral to human life long before contemporary debates about consumption. The archaeological exhibits become not only witnesses of the past but also an invitation to reflect on our own relationship with objects, the environment, and culture.
