Digital Garden | Ana Vostruchovaitė’s solo exhibition

Ana Vostruchovaitė’s solo exhibition “Digital Garden” opens on August 13 at 7:00 PM at Contour Art Gallery, Vilnius.

The exhibition features paintings, plaster reliefs, and jacquard fabrics created specifically for this exhibition. In creating “Digital Garden”, the artist reflected on contemporary life as it exists between physical and virtual spaces: “The latter is increasingly shaping our perception of the world, our rhythm, and our daily habits. Everyday life is shifting to apps; we experience the world more and more often through a camera lens; we work remotely. Even gardens are becoming digital.”

For the artist, it is not only the image itself that matters, but also its relationship to space. The plants and figures in her works often extend beyond the edges of the canvas, as if seeking to enter the viewer’s space. In her work, the digital experience is transposed into images of nature, transforming our relationship with that which grows and changes at a pace incomparably slower than technology. At the same time, the artist raises questions about our connection to place, our roots, and the creation of a sense of home in today’s world.

Born in Vilnius, Ana Vostruchovaitė graduated from the Academy of Fine Arts in Warsaw in 2019. Her diploma project received both the Academy Rector’s Award and the Stefan Gierowski Award and was presented in the exhibition “Coming Out: The Best Academy of Fine Arts Diploma Projects of 2019.”

Living between Vilnius and Warsaw, the artist’s work centers on the question of her own identity. It is fluid, shaped by memory, place, and the experience of being “between” different cultures and environments. As a child, the artist was surrounded by the lush nature of Pavilnys. Today, her life is divided between two very different cities, yet Pavilnys remains her inner landscape – a place where languages, cultures, and different identities intersect. This is also the source of one of the most important ideas in her work: identity is not static; it can be consciously created and constantly reimagined. For the artist, this process begins with a connection to nature, place, and her roots.

Ana Vostruchovaitė has presented and participated in solo and group exhibitions in Poland and internationally. Her works are currently also on view at Miejsce Projektów Zachęty, the project space of Poland’s National Gallery of Art Zachęta in Warsaw, as part of the exhibition “House on Roots” (“Dom na korzeniach”). She has also created the public artwork “Steel Roots” for Ostrowiec Świętokrzyski. Her work has been featured in art publications and exhibition catalogues, including the London-based ArtMaze Mag (Nos. 32–33, 2023).

This is the first time Ana Vostruchovaitė’s work is being presented in Vilnius. The works will be displayed across two venues: the installation of wall-mounted sculptural objects “Digital Space” will also be on view at KUKLA Beauty Box (9 Visų Šventųjų St., Vilnius) a beauty and style concept space in the heart of Vilnius, led by renowned stylist Kęstas Rimdžius.

In this way, the exhibition’s themes will extend beyond the gallery walls.
