The Canary Prophecy

Naujasis Teatras presents – “The Canary Prophecy”, a two-part documentary performance about Oscar Milosz. The performance reveals different stages in the life and work of the poet, diplomat, and mystic O. Milosz.

Part 1 “Seven Solitudes”. Here, you will have the opportunity to learn about the poet’s grandparents, parents, and his life up to the age of 33. Oscar Vladislas de Lubicz Milosz was born and raised at the Čerėja estate.

Part 2 “Ma Lituanie”. “The name of that land – Lithuania – took hold of my mind and feelings. / I long to reveal it to you. / Come! In spirit I will lead you to a foreign land, misty, deep, rustling…” These words by the Lithuanian poet Oscar Milosz, who wrote in French, are like a magical incantation that captivates, takes hold of the imagination, and remains in the memory for a long time. Although Milosz was raised in the Polish cultural tradition, at a crucial time for the Lithuanian nation he considered himself Lithuanian and publicly identified himself as such everywhere.
