Vėra: Between Reality and the Frame | Exhibition

The exhibition Vėra: Between Reality and the Frame opens at the Beatričė’s House of the Vilnius City Museum. It presents the interwar photographic legacy of Veronika Šleivytė (1906–1998), a graphic artist, painter, photographer, and educator.

“– Yours, Vėra” became the artist’s signature on postcards. By sending photographs she had created, and sometimes self-portraits, to her loved ones, Šleivytė shared not only moments from everyday life but also a world of her own making.

The exhibition invites us to take a fresh look at everyday life and photography in the interwar period. In Šleivytė’s photographs, it is difficult to tell where everyday reality ends and the image she creates begins: she directs the scenes herself and takes part in them. As we look at the works on display, we are invited to explore the space between reality and the frame.

The exhibition opens on 25 September at 6 pm. Vėra: Between Reality and the Frame will be on view until 22 November. The exhibition can be visited during the museum’s opening hours with a valid admission ticket. Admission is free on the opening day.
