SACRED MUSIC HOURS. AD LUCEM

MATEUSZ RZEWUSKI
(organ, Poland)

Not everything you’ll hear in this concert is written down in the notes. Mateusz Rzewuski will be unveiled here not just as an exceptional virtuoso but also as a talented improvisor.

One of the most active organists in Poland, he studied the performing arts in Warsaw (Fryderyk Chopin University of Music) and Lübeck, deepening his studies in the art of improvisation in Paris where he earned the Concertiste Diploma, and then specialised in early music in Basel. This multifaceted wealth of experience formed the performer’s unique style, enrapturing both professionals and the public alike. His concert routes span Europe’s greatest cathedrals to concert halls in the United States and Asia. So his stopover in Vilnius is truly a joyous event.

Here Rzewuski will convey a unique dialogue between epochs and styles: works by Johann Gottfried Walther and Johann Sebastian Bach highlight an architectural way of thinking, while pieces by Mieczysław Surzyński and Alexandre Guilmant prepare us for some romantic fun. But the most important part of this evening is certainly improvisation. Two of the organist’s opuses will be born right here, based on motifs from Regina Coeli and Salve Regina.

You be the judge – will they be this programme’s cherry on top?

Programme features music by Johann Gotfried Walther, Johann Sebastian Bach, Mieczysław Surzyński and others
