This is an evening for those who want to hear jazz not as a background, but as a living, unpredictable and engaging story.
Pianist and composer Giedrius Nakas presents a program of original music, which will feature pieces from his jazz albums. This is music in which modern jazz meets neo-soul, hip-hop, classical, rock and film music dramaturgy. One moment it can be subtle, lyrical and hypnotic, the next – bursting with impetuous energy, unexpected rhythms and improvisations.
One of Giedrius’ most prominent works is the album “No Fear, Full Of Love”, recorded in New York, which featured internationally recognized US jazz musicians Ben Williams, Justin Brown, Troy Roberts and Caleb Curtis. The compositions on the album are distinguished by memorable melodies, contrasts and a constant balance between carefully written music and improvisation that is born on the spot.
Another important creative stage is the album “The Dream I Forgot”. His music resembles a dream or a movie without a screen: longer, multi-part compositions gradually build tension, change moods and create a unique plot. Not only individual virtuosity is important here, but also the sensitive dialogue of the entire ensemble, which is why each live performance takes on new colors.
Giedrius Nakas studied in Vilnius, The Hague, Groningen and New York, and has performed in many European countries and the USA. He is also known to the Lithuanian audience from joint projects with Andrius Mamontovs, Jurga, Monika Liu, Monika Linkyte, the group “Saulės Kliošas” and other well-known performers. His original program has been performed at the festivals “Kaunas Jazz”, “Šiauliai Jazz”, Paliesius Manor and other concert stages.
Four great jazz musicians from the Baltic States will meet on stage tonight.
Giedrius Nakas – piano, keyboards
Karolis Šarkus – saxophone
Tuomas J. Räsänen – percussion
This will be a concert where melody, rhythm and improvisation will merge into one lively musical journey. Each piece will have its own story, and each story will be told only once that evening.
Don’t miss the opportunity to hear the original, bold and cinematic music of the Giedrius Nakas Quartet up close.
The choir project is partly funded by the Vilnius City Municipality.
