About event

Family-friendly performance

“Vištytė ir Gaidelis” is a modern reinterpretation of a well-known story, transformed into an interactive game.

How do you follow a fairy tale? Can it be changed? Can contemporary objects assist traditional fairy tale characters? Can an age-old question have a new answer? Could the rooster fly into space with a samurai sword, while the hen’s eye is protected by sunglasses?

Scenographer and costume designer Ramunė Skrebūnaitė realized a long-held dream from her student years — to create a performance where animated objects expand the adventure space and become important participants in the story. Here, a girl and a boy fight for the right to believe in the fairy tale as they remember it. But playing alone isn’t fun. To enjoy the game together, the children learn to find compromise. Along this path toward friendship, they creatively learn patience, generosity, and other valuable life lessons.

“In this performance, two adults play and fool around as freely as children,” says actress Viola Klimčiauskaitė.
Her colleague Dalius Skamarakas adds: “Life truths presented in a playful form reach children’s hearts more easily.”

The lively music by Andrius Kulikauskas and simple, heartfelt song lyrics engage even the youngest viewers, while older children are invited to participate, advising the characters as they face challenges. Keistuoliai Theatre performances for children are always unique because they break the “fourth wall” — there is no invisible barrier between actors and children, and every word a young viewer speaks shapes the mood of the performance.

Parents accompanying their children will also get to revisit the magical, vast, and colorful world that lives within every child — including the child still living inside all of us.
