“BOOK + CINEMA: AUTUMN FILM EVENINGS” RETURNS TO VILNIUS TOWN HALL

On October 8, the traditional event series “Book + Cinema: Autumn Film Evenings” will begin at Vilnius Town Hall. Over three October evenings, audiences will be invited to rediscover the connection between books and cinema by watching films inspired by literary works and meeting their creators.

This year’s 5th anniversary edition of the “Book + Cinema” autumn evenings will feature three Lithuanian films – Gytis Lukšas’ The Hollow (Duburys), Raimundas Banionis’ Purple Fog (Purpurinis rūkas) and Algimantas Puipa’s The Wolf’s Tooth Necklace (Vilko dantų karoliai). Following the screenings, discussions with actors and directors will explore the journey of literary works to the big screen, the language of cinema and the behind-the-scenes process of filmmaking.

“This year, we will celebrate the anniversary edition of the ‘Book + Cinema’ autumn evenings, which we will officially open at Vilnius Town Hall. We will invite residents and visitors to once again turn their attention to Lithuanian literature and films inspired by it. Together with filmmakers, we will discuss the journey of stories from literary works to the big screen. We hope that even more viewers will join us this year and that this dialogue between literature, filmmakers and audiences will become even more vibrant,” says Živilė Gallego, founder and producer of the project.

Three October evenings – three stories from Lithuanian cinema:

• October 8, 18:00 – the event series will open with director Gytis Lukšas’ film The Hollow (Duburys). The evening’s guest will be actor Giedrius Kiela.
• October 13, 18:00 – audiences are invited to a screening of director Raimundas Banionis’ film Purple Fog (Purpurinis rūkas). The evening’s guest will be the film’s director, Raimundas Banionis.
• October 21, 18:00 – the series will conclude with director Algimantas Puipa’s film The Wolf’s Tooth Necklace (Vilko dantų karoliai). The audience will meet the director himself, Algimantas Puipa.
