On the last Sunday of the month – June 28 – you can visit the Liepkalnis Water Reservoir for free!
You will be offered free guided tours in one of the most impressive underground spaces in Vilnius – a water reservoir located 5 meters underground, known for its exceptional acoustics, where sound can echo several times.
The Liepkalnis Water Reservoir is a unique piece of Vilnius engineering heritage. It was built in 1916 beneath Liepkalnis Hill and for over a century served as an important part of the city’s water supply system, operated by the water utility company Vilniaus vandenys. It is one of the largest underground structures of its kind in Lithuania.
The reservoir was in use until 1987 and remained closed and protected for a long time as a strategic facility. Since 2023, it has been open to visitors – tours are organized by the Energy and Technology Museum, and the space is gradually becoming a cultural and events venue, where its impressive acoustics, vaults, and industrial architecture are put to use.
