Matcha ceremony evening with Satomi Ueno: from learning to experiencing

We invite you to explore the roots of matcha tea: how is this trendy beverage traditionally prepared and enjoyed in its homeland of Japan? What do the Japanese find delicious and valuable about matcha, and how do you choose the right one? You will learn how to prepare, drink, and appreciate this authentic matcha yourself.

Satomi Ueno, a special guest visiting Lithuania—a representative of the traditional Omotesenke tea school from Japan—will help you understand and learn all of this.
During the workshop, you will prepare and taste a special matcha together with her: Kirishima matcha, grown according to organic principles and made from the youngest, sweetest leaves of the Yabukita and Okumidori tea plant varieties.

In the workshop:
• We will briefly introduce the tradition and philosophy of Japanese tea, the concept of Ichigo ichie (that this moment is unique and will never be repeated), and the values of the tea ceremony: wa kei sei ja ku (harmony, respect, purity, and tranquility).
• We will explain how to properly hold and use the whisk, the correct water temperature, the whisking technique, and what is most important for creating a beautiful foam with fine bubbles.
• We will briefly explain how to assess the quality of matcha and how to taste it properly.
• Together, we will prepare and taste Japanese matcha tea.

The workshop will take place in a special venue: Tumo Gallery, Užupio St. 28, Vilnius.
