Grandbrothers Perform in Lithuania for the First Time

One of today’s most innovative musical projects, Grandbrothers, is coming to Lithuania for the very first time. On 17 October, the internationally acclaimed duo will perform at the Lithuanian National Philharmonic in Vilnius.

Renowned for their unmistakable sound, Grandbrothers merge the expressive qualities of an acoustic grand piano with cutting-edge technology and live electronic textures. Critics have described them as “architects of sound,” while their concerts have been praised as hypnotic fusions of music, technology, and performance. Their distinctive artistic approach has even been likened to “open-heart surgery on a piano.”

Over more than a decade, Grandbrothers have become one of the leading names in the contemporary classical and electronic music scene. Their music combines minimalist composition, ambient and electronic soundscapes, and the emotional depth often associated with film scores. Listeners can hear echoes of the minimalist traditions of John Cage, Steve Reich, and Philip Glass, alongside creative affinities with artists such as Nils Frahm, Hauschka, and Ludovico Einaudi.

The duo has earned international recognition not only for its distinctive musical language but also for its captivating live performances in major concert halls around the world. They have appeared at leading festivals including Sónar, Montreux Jazz Festival, MUTEK, Reeperbahn Festival, Trans Musicales, and Lowlands, while their international tours have taken them across Europe, North America, Asia, and Australia.

One of their most celebrated performances was a special ARTE Concert production filmed inside Cologne Cathedral, where the duo transformed the monumental space into an intimate sonic experience. Beyond the concert stage, Grandbrothers collaborate with visual artists, create audiovisual productions, compose music for film and dance performances, and regularly perform in renowned clubs across Europe’s cultural capitals.

Audiences particularly appreciate the duo’s immersive live shows, where the performance becomes as much a technological spectacle as a musical event. Grandbrothers have released five critically acclaimed albums, collectively earning millions of streams worldwide. Their latest release, Elsewhere, introduces a stronger influence of analogue synthesizers, drum machines, and club culture, bringing greater rhythmic energy while preserving the emotional piano-driven identity that defines their music.

Following the album’s release, the duo completed a 32-date European tour, performing at prestigious venues including Élysée Montmartre (Paris), Melkweg (Amsterdam), Huxleys Neue Welt (Berlin), Scala (London), Vicar Street (Dublin), and Ancienne Belgique (Brussels). Critics praised the tour for seamlessly blending minimalist compositions with powerful electronic energy and immersive sound design.

Grandbrothers consists of Erol Sarp, a pianist and composer, and Lukas Vogel, a sound engineer and software developer. Formed in Düsseldorf in 2011, the duo gained international acclaim by transforming the acoustic grand piano into a remarkably versatile instrument capable of producing textures typically associated with electronic music.

Rather than relying on digital samples or virtual synthesizers, they developed a custom-built electromechanical system that physically manipulates the piano itself, creating an entirely original sonic palette while preserving the instrument’s acoustic character.

In Vilnius, Grandbrothers will present their latest live production, featuring multilayered harmonies, hypnotic rhythms, and an impressive visual and lighting design.
