DJ Premier, whose real name is Christopher Martin, is one of the most influential figures in hip-hop history—a man whose sound shaped an entire era of rap. His name is inextricably linked to the legendary duo Gang Starr, which, together with rapper Guru, created East Coast hip-hop classics and laid the groundwork for the genre. 

Over a career spanning more than three decades, DJ Premier has worked with the biggest names in global hip-hop—Nas, The Notorious B.I.G., Jay-Z, Busta Rhymes, Common, Rakim, KRS-One, and many others. His productions have become not only hits but also a hallmark of quality for the entire rap culture. Heavy drum beats, meticulously selected samples, and a minimalist yet highly recognizable sound are still considered one of the most important forms of 90s hip-hop aesthetics.
