Baltic Way Day at the Gediminas Castle Tower

On August 23, starting at 3 PM, the Gediminas Castle Tower will open its doors to visitors for the new exposition “Frequency of Freedom”, telling the story of Lithuania’s struggle for freedom – from the 19th-century uprisings to the Baltic Way, the January Events of 1991, and the threats to freedom emerging today.

The exposition presents authentic Lithuanian historical artefacts and personal testimonies of the struggle for freedom. Visitors will see the Lithuanian Tricolour that flew from Gediminas Tower during the January 1991 events, the lighter belonging to freedom defender Darius Gerbutavičius, photographs of partisans, documents of dissidents, and other exhibits that help explore the different periods of Lithuania’s struggle for freedom.

On August 23, from 3 to 5 PM, special activities will also take place to mark the opening of the new exposition: short guided tours of “Frequency of Freedom”, a workshop for braiding Lithuanian tricolour bracelets, and the making of a commemorative badge.

The activities are free of charge, and no advance registration is required. To participate, visitors only need to purchase an admission ticket to the Gediminas Castle Tower.
