When Music Transcends Genre Boundaries | listening to records

In contemporary music, genre boundaries are increasingly becoming mere guidelines rather than strict definitions. Many artists freely combine elements of classical music, jazz, improvisation, and other traditions. In this listening session, we will focus specifically on such recordings—we will feature works in which the most important thing is not genre affiliation, but a consistently developed creative idea.

Programme of the session:

  • Fabrizio de Graaf & Jochem le Cointre – „Rimpelingen“
  • Pēteris Vasks – „Castillo Interior“
  • Nils Henrik Asheim – „Salmenes Bok“
  • Trio Da Kali & Kronos Quartet – „Sunjata“
  • Svend Østergaard – „Ørenslyd“
  • Jan Vogt – „Cello Concerto“
  • Terry Riley – „Dark Queen Mantra“
  • Ernst Reijseger, Harmen Fraanje & Mola Sylla – „We Are There“

LISTENING TO RECORDS is listening to music following a pre-planned playlist. We listen to high-quality records played from vinyl records or high-resolution digital files—this allows us to experience the music’s unique emotional depth, appreciate the nuances of the performance, and immerse ourselves in the depths of this music.
