Ramūnas Motiekaitis “Dreams”

On October 22 at 7 PM, the Great Hall of Sapieha Palace will host a performance of composer Ramūnas Motiekaitis’s “Dreams”, a work for electronics and piano.

The piece explores the threshold between dream and reality. Taking its cue from Marcel Proust’s reflection and a child’s question – “Dad, can the characters in our dreams see us?” – the musical space is shaped through layers of sound, motifs of light and shadow, subtle electronic timbres, and the resonance of the piano. The composer seeks to grasp what resists clear verbal explanation and to reveal the singular nature of music.

“I am trying to grasp what cannot be explained with complete clarity, and I never cease to marvel at music, which, while being the most semantically obscure of the arts, is at the same time utterly concrete,” says Ramūnas Motiekaitis.

Ramūnas Motiekaitis is a composer and philosopher of culture and art. Born and raised in Vilnius, he studied composition, philosophy, and Japanese studies in Norway, Finland, and Japan.

Motiekaitis composes across a range of genres and has received five awards in the Lithuanian Composers’ Union’s Best Work of the Year competition. He has taught at Vilnius University and Vytautas Magnus University and currently teaches at the Lithuanian Academy of Music and Theatre.
