Summer. Travel. Open windows. The scent of dust from a gravel road. Hair blowing in the wind. It is hard to imagine a better time for a film series dedicated to life on the road.
Following the inclusion of My Own Private Idaho in its classic cinema program, the Skalvija Cinema Center decided to expand the theme with a selection of films that can be described as road movies.
In these films, the destination is often less important than the journey itself. Characters leave behind their ordinary lives, social roles, and identities, embarking on journeys that become spaces of personal transformation. Along the way, they encounter strangers, unexpected situations, and their own inner conflicts.
Road movies frequently explore themes of freedom, rebellion, self-discovery, and escape from social conventions. The journey itself becomes a unique form of storytelling.
This June, audiences are invited to set off on both physical and cinematic journeys.
For screening dates and times:
Program runs until June 21.
Organized by Skalvija Cinema Center.
