John Coltrane 100!

To commemorate the 100th anniversary of John Coltrane’s birth at the Magic of Music Club, we will listen to five of his albums—to five steps toward spiritual heights. All of them represent the boldest creative explorations of one of the 20th century’s most important musical innovators, who pushed the boundaries of jazz and improvisational music and opened up new realms of listening.

Since this is a special occasion, the listening session will be unconventional—all five albums will be played in their entirety, from the first track to the last. We’ll start listening at 4:00 p.m. and finish at 9:00 p.m.

We listen to high-quality records played from vinyl records or high-resolution digital files—this allows us to experience the music’s unique emotional depth, appreciate the nuances of the performance, and immerse ourselves in the depths of this music.
