CHRISTOPHER’S PICNIC. SMALL STORIES

EMILIJA STATINAITĖ (vocals, guitar)
ŽIVILĖ MACKEVIČIŪTĖ (vocals, guitar)

With each word and each melody, you’ll be ever more pleased that you came. Their works are like small stories, ones that contain emotions and situations we can all recognise. As you listen to Emilija Statinaitė and Živilė Mackevičiūtė, you’ll understand why they were awarded the Saulius Mykolaitis Prize.

“Živile and I have been friends in music for over a year now, so that’s why, for us, this concert is like a meeting where we share our songs, stories, and all that has happened over that time. We’ll be singing songs born from the verses of Lithuanian male and female poets, sometimes intertwined with folk song motifs or dialects. I think this kind of music comes across the best when it’s not performed on a grand stage, but where we can just be together – under the trees as a summer evening slowly winds down, when there are spaces for silence between songs. If you come, you might just find you own story among these melodies”, says Emilija, inviting us to the Bernardine Gardens.

Programme features poems by Rimvydas Stankevičius, Henrikas Radauskas, Vytautas Mačernis and other poets – set to original songs by the performers.
