The Tiger Lillies are a British musical trio founded in 1989 by Martyn Jacques. Their music is often described as a unique blend of dark cabaret, punk rock, chanson, and opera elements, exploring macabre and melancholic themes through Jacques’ distinctive falsetto and accordion-driven sound. Their theatrical performances have captivated audiences around the world.
In Lithuania, The Tiger Lillies will perform two concerts: on November 19 in Kaunas at the newly revived cultural space “Daina,” and on November 20 in Vilnius at the Keistuoliai Theatre. The legendary trio will present their latest album “Serenade from the Sewer,” which delves into the darkest corners of human experience. The album draws on Jacques’ memories of violent, turbulent 1980s Soho—a world marked by social inequality, poverty, drug trade, and constant danger.
“The main theme of many of my songs is people living on the margins of society. When I moved to Soho in the 1980s, I spent many hours just looking out of the window… ‘Serenade from the Sewer’ reflects some of those memories. It was a happy time for me, but tragic for many of the people I knew and observed from my window,” says Martyn Jacques.
Longtime fans can expect a striking combination of chilling ballads, cabaret theatrics, and unforgettable storytelling, while first-time listeners will be struck by a performance style that critics have long struggled to define:
