LOW AIR 15 | PREMIERE! Dance Performance SISTERS

Vilnius City Dance Theatre “Low Air” celebrates 15 years of creative work and invites audiences to “SISTERS”, a contemporary dance performance for young people by young-generation choreographer and “Low Air” alumna Vaiva Paukštė, featuring thirteen students of the “Low Air” Dance School.

SISTERS

“SISTERS” is a contemporary dance performance about sisters and sisterhood. A sensitive story about a bond we do not choose, yet one that can remain among the closest and most important relationships throughout our lives. As sisters experience social, family and personal changes together, a sister becomes a kind of “keeper of memories” – someone who shares stories, remembers the same faces, recognises joys, pains and silences, witnesses a shared journey of growing up, and reminds us of who we were and who we have become.

The dancers, electronic music and texts from the personal archives of the creative team reveal different layers of sisterly relationships and how they evolve over time. The anticipation of a sister’s birth gives way to childhood spent together, followed by tension, conflict and difficulties in communication, and eventually by a sense of security created through shared experiences and memories. As they embody these transformations, the dancers on stage also create their own sisterhood – not through family ties, but through a community shaped by shared creative work and experiences that help them grow. A community whose sense of connection can inspire those looking for belonging or creating communities of their own beyond the theatre.

VAIVA PAUKŠTĖ

Dance artist Vaiva Paukštė is a “Low Air” alumna. She studied contemporary dance at Codarts University of the Arts in the Netherlands and, after returning to Lithuania, earned a Master’s degree in Theatre Arts (Directing) at the Lithuanian Academy of Music and Theatre. The young choreographer continues to develop her contemporary dance language, which received a nomination for the Lithuanian Golden Stage Cross awards in 2023.
