DONATAS ZAKARAS – Oratorio Gratulationes Vilnae for mezzo-soprano, bass, choir and orchestra (text by Vladas Braziūnas, world premiere). Commissioned by Vilnius Choir, dedicated to Vilnius’ 700th anniversary
For the Restoration of the State Day, the most prominent Lithuanian music ensembles – the Lithuanian National Symphony Orchestra and the Vilnius Choir, conducted by Maestro Modestas Pitrėnas – offer a programme of exclusively Lithuanian music. The concert features Arvydas Malcys’ picturesque symphonic score Impetus and a new work by Donatas Zakaras, the oratorio Gratulationes Vilnae. Availing himself of the poems by poet Vladas Braziūnas, the composer has created a musical dedication to the city of Vilnius on the occasion of its anniversary.
