Everything begins with an act of infidelity.
Based on a short story by Haruki Murakami, the film follows a theatre actor and director who drives a bright red Saab while staging Anton Chekhov’s Uncle Vanya using an unconventional directing method. As rehearsals progress, he searches for answers about the wife who betrayed him.
Winner of the FIPRESCI Prize and Best Screenplay at the Cannes Film Festival, Drive My Car weaves together Beatles references, Murakami’s characteristic storytelling, and a deeply reflective portrait of contemporary Japan.
