Colourful Folklore Festival “Pokrovskije kolokola“

It is for two years in a row that I have had the opportunity to attend the international folklore festival “Pokrovskije kolokola”, and this year the Festival has been taking place for a fourth time. That was really and excellent opportunity to hear authentic folklore of many countries during several days of the Festival (10, 11 and 12 September) – original and unique songs, instrumental music and dances of different nations. Besides the guests from different regions of Russia, Poland, Latvia, Belarus, Hungary, groups of Lithuanians and ethnic minorities residing in Lithuania participated in the Festival.
I attended concerts given both at the Music Academy and the Church of St Catherine – the halls were crowded everywhere. But the most pleasant thing was to sit on the grass in the yard of the Ensemble of the Franciscan Monastery. It was worth listening not only to the traditional folklore being performed but also to see impressive authentic national costumes. It is difficult to believe that all the concerts (with the exception of the final one) were free!
Let us look forward to the next year and to receiving more participants from a larger number of countries!
