A Modern Encounter with Bach (Duo Nida)
About event

Following an exceptionally successful debut at the Magic of Music Club, where a full house came to hear the performers during their very first show, “Duo Nida” returns with a new, intriguing program!

The artistry of flutist Miglė Astrauskaitė (France) and cellist Jordan Costard (France) has already been recognized by audiences in Lithuania, France, and Germany, and their performances have earned high praise from French music critics.

The ensemble’s latest program, “A Contemporary Encounter with Bach,” invites the listener into a continuous dialogue between the past and the present. In this concert, Johann Sebastian Bach’s musical legacy—revealed through the Flute Sonata in E-minor and the Inventions—mirrors 20th-century and contemporary compositions.

The spirit of the Baroque genius transcends the boundaries of eras: it is directly reflected in the work “Bachianas Brasileiras No. 6” by the Brazilian composer Heitor Villa-Lobos, as well as in the work “Alemana Latina” by the Colombian flutist and composer G. Hoyos, in which Bach’s polyphony resonates with jazz rhythms. Arvydas Malcys’ poetic meditation “Loneliness for Two” transports us to Lithuania, while Miglė Astrauskaitė’s expressive composition “Recurring Thoughts”—performed in Lithuania for the first time— reveals the full range of the duo’s colors. Another piece originally written for this duo—a suite for flute and cello by Japanese composer Yuko Uebayashi— lyrically sums up the musical dialogue.
