IMPRESSIONS FOR HARP AND PIANO | Joana Daunytė (Harp), Eglė Kižytė-Ramonienė (Piano)
About event

This chamber concert invites listeners to an evening where the French musical impressionist style intertwines with the sensitive identity of Lithuanian music.

The concert will open with Claude Debussy’s “Danse sacrée et danse profane” (“Sacred and Profane Dances”), in which the harp, accompanied by the piano, becomes a mediator between the sacred and earthly worlds.

The programme will also feature the premiere of Arvydas Malcys’s “Olivia’s Awakening: Two Dances for Harp and Strings” (2022), presented in a version for harp and piano. This is a luminous, transparent and childlike work, created at the initiative of harpist Joana Daunytė and inspired by the birth of the composer’s granddaughter.

Pianist Dr Eglė Kižytė-Ramonienė will invite listeners into the colourful world of Olivier Messiaen’s Préludes, while M. K. Čiurlionis’s preludes performed on the harp will form a bridge between the piano and the harp, continuing the tradition of adapting Čiurlionis’s music for harp, cultivated by Dr Joana Daunytė.

The programme will culminate in Maurice Ravel’s “Introduction and Allegro” – a virtuosic and refined work that showcases the dazzling palette of colours of the harp, the virtuosity of the piano and the chamber dialogue between two accomplished performers.

This concert is a dialogue between two cultures, a bridge between different historical periods and, of course, a meeting of two magnificent musical instruments.

Do not miss the opportunity to experience the classical French repertoire alongside contemporary works for harp and piano.
