About event

Directed by Artūras Areima, this play is based on Per Olov Enquist’s “The Lynx Hour” and presents a moving drama of the human soul. It explores questions of madness, faith, and the nature of humanity, delving into the human psyche and subconscious. The work offers an ironic, mental, and cultural labyrinth, studying human identity within the moral, religious, political, mythical, informational, and cultural contexts of humanity.

The central theme revolves around the blurred boundaries between sanity and insanity, normality and social marginalization. The director asks: when and how does a person reach a breaking point and succumb to cruelty, crime, or madness? The play aims to analyze the nature of crime, the origins of mental disorders, and invites the audience to reflect on their beliefs, fears, and engage in dialogue.

The story follows a young man admitted to a psychiatric hospital, in the critical care unit. He shares his childhood and difficult life story with a young doctor: raised without parents, isolated in the countryside under the care of his grandfather. A team of scientists conducts an experiment with some patients, allowing them to raise and care for pets. The protagonist learns the experiment will be terminated, and his closest companion, a cat, will be taken from him.

“The Lynx Hour” is a co-production of Vilnius Old Theatre and AAT | Artūras Areima Theatre.
