October 20 at 18:30 | “The Mystery of Musical Masks. Sketch” is a project of the Musical Theatre study programme that continues to explore the themes of masks and transformation on stage. Musical compositions of different characters and styles merge with movement, light, soundscapes and painting. These artistic languages come together to create a unique world in which the familiar can unexpectedly take on a different form.
Here, the mask does more than conceal the face. By removing everyday facial expressions, it highlights body language and offers a different perspective on human emotions and experiences, as well as on what often remains unspoken. Movement does not merely illustrate the music – it extends it, giving sound a physical form and an inner, emotional expression. Sometimes the slightest gesture, pause or moment of silence is enough to reveal a new meaning.
The creative core of this mystery is the sketch. It is an unfinished thought, a spontaneous brushstroke, an intermediate moment when an idea has already emerged, but its final form remains unknown. Each musical story leaves behind its own colour, mood and trace. These elements overlap, merge and become part of a painting – a visible sign of something that would otherwise disappear with the final sound.
“Sketch” is not simply a predictable story. For one person, it may become a memory; for another, an intuition, a question or a feeling that has yet to be named.
Can something that has sounded and faded away remain visible?
Perhaps the answer lies on the canvas. Or perhaps in the audience’s memory.
