Marco Bernardi | A Tribute to Julian “Cannonball” Adderley
On November 6, the Downtown Piano Lab stage will host an energetic evening filled with the spirit of blues and infectious swing, dedicated to one of the most outstanding alto saxophonists in jazz history – Julian “Cannonball” Adderley.
At the heart of the concert is Italian saxophonist Marco Bernardi. He has devoted a significant part of his musical career to studying Cannonball Adderley’s music, improvisational language and distinctive sound. For this evening’s programme, Bernardi will join Lithuanian jazz musicians to revive the drive, warmth and spontaneous stage energy characteristic of Adderley’s music.
Marco Bernardi began playing the saxophone at the age of eleven. He earned a master’s degree in classical music in his hometown of Bari, Italy. Later, after receiving a full scholarship from Siena Jazz, he continued his jazz studies in the Netherlands at the Royal Conservatoire of The Hague and obtained his second master’s degree from the Conservatorium van Amsterdam.
The saxophonist has performed in Philadelphia, at Amsterdam’s renowned Bimhuis jazz club, with the Concertgebouw Jazz Orchestra, and alongside jazz masters such as Greg Osby, John Taylor, Miguel Zenón and Marco Tamburini.
