Some musical encounters happen only once. Others grow into a colourful story.
In 1990, Petras Vyšniauskas, Christian Ramond and Klaus Kugel embarked on their first trio tour together through Germany and the Netherlands. More than three decades have passed since then, yet what matters most has remained: mutual trust, freedom to improvise and a shared musical understanding.
On soprano saxophone, Petras Vyšniauskas creates a distinctive blend of emotional intensity and freedom. Christian Ramond gives the double bass a role far beyond that of accompaniment, combining sound, line and rhythm in his musical language. Klaus Kugel approaches percussion as an inexhaustible field of sonic possibilities, where rhythm, silence and energy become one.
There are no strictly defined roles in this trio: the double bass may lead the melody, the percussion may create colours, and the saxophone may become part of the rhythm. What connects these three musicians is not only a long shared history, but also a special form of musical listening.
Their musical bond began in 1989. The trio found its path in 1990. And the music is still being created in the moment.
This time – at St Catherine’s Church.
