The first production in the trilogy “FELLIANA 2026–2028”
The Užupio dramos teatras presents the first premiere in its Felliana theatre cycle, inspired by the work of legendary Italian filmmaker Federico Fellini.
Cabiria’s Nights is a touching, poetic, and grotesque tragicomedy based on the celebrated film Nights of Cabiria. It tells the story of a small person navigating a vast and indifferent world.
At the heart of the performance is Cabiria, a lonely prostitute living on society’s margins, constantly searching for love, human connection, and faith in others. Despite betrayal, humiliation, and loneliness, she never loses her ability to dream, laugh, and believe that life can still be beautiful.
The title role is performed by Virginija Straigytė.
Cabiria is like an angel with stained wings—she stumbles, makes mistakes, is deceived and hurt, yet even after life’s harshest blows, she retains her inner light. Her journey becomes a delicate balance between joy and sorrow, reality and fantasy.
On stage, imagination merges with reality: city streets transform into dreamlike landscapes, and ordinary people become almost circus-like characters. The Fellini-inspired world unfolds like a memory or a dream, filled with music, light, shadows, melancholy, grotesque beauty, and the celebration of life.
The production blends comedy and tragedy with Lindy Hop dancing, magic acts, theatrical vitality, and cinematic poetry. The set and costumes recreate the atmosphere of post-war Italy, while music by Nino Rota—an essential part of Fellini’s cinematic universe—guides the characters between dreams, circus fantasy, and everyday reality.
