The Baltic Guitar Quartet — one of the most prominent guitar ensembles in the Baltic states — was formed in 2004. As a quartet, Zigmas Čepulėnas, Sergej Krinicin, Saulius S. Lipčius, and Chris Ruebens (Belgium) have performed in more than 25 countries around the world and at prestigious concert halls, including the Berlin Philharmonic, the Royal Castle in Warsaw, London’s Southbank Centre, and the Forbidden City Concert Hall in Beijing.
The program “Baltic Colors, Southern Rhythms” brings together diverse musical traditions—from the subtle melodies of the Baltic region to spirited tangos and Spanish rhythms. The program will feature arrangements of works by M. K. Čiurlionis and Faustas Latėnas, Nejc Kuhar’s “Colours of Baltic,” Mykola Leontovych’s “Shchedryk,” Astor Piazzolla’s “Adiós Nonino,” Edward Elgar’s “Sevillana,” and Chris Ruebens’ energetic cycle “Three Ukulele Dances.” This is a colorful, virtuosic, and diverse musical journey that reveals the wide range of expressive possibilities of the guitar quartet.
