Vaižgantas’s Nebylys is one of the most multifaceted works in Lithuanian literature. It explores the complex duality of the human spiritual and sensual worlds, as well as the relationship between human beings and their own nature. Passion reaches the deepest layers of that nature, where destructive, “satanic” tendencies also reside. Vaižgantas examines various forms of love – from platonic, childish, fraternal and spiritual love to physical, passionate, animalistic, sinful and destructive love.
Written almost a hundred years ago, the novella caught our attention with its paradoxical relevance despite being rooted in a different time. This paradox inspired the creation of the performance “Welcome to Puzionis” at “Palėpė” Theatre Studio.
