“IT’S THE END OF THE AMUSEMENT PHASE”

It’s the end of the amusement phase is a highly energetic and intense dance performance filled with shifting meanings, physicality, and rhythmic complexity — like a rollercoaster through a contemporary amusement park haunted by absurdity and end-of-the-world moods.

On stage, three dancers move between personal narratives and collective history, driven by their bodies and a relentless rhythm that feels like an endless dance marathon. Exhaustion, burnout, progress, and unfulfilled promises of the future are recurring motifs throughout the work.

The piece reflects on a world where entertainment becomes exhausting, and where movement itself can resemble both celebration and propaganda. It asks: where are we actually heading?

Choreographer Chara Kotsali approaches society with both critical precision and humor, exploring how contemporary life is shaped by constant stimulation, repetition, and collective fatigue.

Her artistic practice combines choreography, anthropology, documentary approaches, and sound studies, with a strong focus on the politics of movement and sound.

“IT’S THE END OF THE AMUSEMENT PHASE” (premiered in 2025) continues her internationally recognised body of work, which has been presented across major European festivals and selected for platforms such as Aerowaves Twenty26 and Moving Balkans Platform 2026.

The performance ultimately suggests that, despite exhaustion and collapse, the experiment is not over — history continues, and so does movement.
