An Evening of Sung Poetry and Romances

As the chilly autumn evenings are getting colder, the good music experts “Bardai LT” invite you to warm your souls and visit a concert of sung poetry and romances on October 7 at 7 PM at St. Catherine’s Church. At the concert, singer-songwriter and actor Olegas Ditkovskis and singer-songwriter and performer Vilija Radvilė will share their original creations, while the beauty of romances will be sung by the duo from “Nalšia”: Audronė Vakarinienė, Vilija Vaitkienė, and jazz pianist Rytas Lingė.

Singer-songwriter and performer Vilija Radvilė has been delighting listeners with intimate sounds of music for more than a decade and travelling through life with a song. The creator, originally from Rokiškis, is well known and recognised among listeners of sung poetry. In her songs, Vilija sings about what is real, what opens the doors to freedom and the depths of the soul. About time and its weight, doors opened to life. Vilija is always full of romance, aristocratic and spiritual. Her songs are deep and meaningful. This is the kind of music that elevates, enchants and heals hearts.

Singing actor Olegas Ditkovskis has been delighting listeners with songs of his own creation for more than 30 years. Olegas creates songs based on the poetry of R. Stankevičius, J. Strielkūnas, S. Geda, J. Ivanauskaitė, Radauskas, A. Jonynas and other poets. He is well known to the public from roles he once played in theatre and cinema, as well as from concerts with the group “Aktorių trio”, where he performed original songs together with his colleagues Kostas Smoriginas and Saulius Bareikis. Later, he performed with Neda Malūnavičiūtė and Kostas Smoriginas in the project “Meilės trikampis”, and after it ended, he organised concerts with Neda. Currently, he performs with his coursemate, actor Saulius Bareikis, or, on special occasions, appears alone. This is how we will see him at the concert at St. Catherine’s Church.

The distinctive, sophisticated and enchanting lyricism of the most beautiful romances, the depth of poetry, simply calls for a special musical expression, the ability to sing together, to feel and convey the free flow of melody carried by emotions. Sometimes this is possible only among two or three performers. Therefore, the two “Nalšia” singers – Audronė Vakarinienė and Vilija Vaitkienė – often choose to sing as a duo. Daring to deviate from authentic traditions of music-making and singing, the duo twists the melodies and rhythms of romances along newer paths, more customary nowadays, seeking to bring romances back to life, elevate them to the level of works worthy of experiments, unconventional interpretation and a high culture of music-making. The singers are assisted by the professional and creative performer Rytas Lingė (piano). His music-making together enriches the arrangements of songs and romances with new, unexpected colours. But even when interpreted in a more contemporary way, romances remain what they have always been – the song of our hearts.
