June 2, Monday at 6 pm we invite you to the opening of Urtė Lagunavičiūtė solo show THE POOL.
THE POOL Is a conceptual two-year-long artistic research project that explores themes of limitation, freedom, choice, and internal transformation through a glass and light installation. The central idea revolves around the metaphor of a pool – a confined space that paradoxically enables change. The project reflects the artist’s evolving thought process and unites seemingly unrelated elements into one cohesive narrative.
A wide range of media is employed: watercolors, personal visual diaries, childhood drawings by the artist’s mother, and theoretical reflection. These components create a layered experience that invites viewers to engage with the work beyond aesthetics – to reflect on personal moments of transformation and perception shifts. The installation incorporates physical elements from the Vilnius Academy of Arts: swimming pools from the VDA Mizarai practice and recreation base, and Soviet-era tiles from the VDA stained glass workshops – recontextualized to symbolize restriction and potential, and to serve as a symbolic platform for transformation.
The work encourages interaction, prompting the viewer to pause, look deeper, and become part of the reflective process. The pool, presented as a visual embodiment of change, turns into a symbolic platform for rethinking limitations as opportunities.
BASEINAS is timely and relevant, offering a poetic yet critical inquiry into boundaries, perception, and the conditions for change – blending personal narrative with collective memory and spatial transformation.
The exhibition will run until 14 of June.
The exhibition a part of VDA graduation show 2025. Supervisor of the final creative work – prof. Ieva Skauronė. Supervisor of the research paper – prof. Deima Katinaitė, PhD
