Navigating between different music genres and pushing the boundaries, the dynamic international Vilnius Mama Jazz festival annually presents the most renowned jazz musicians from all over the world and nurtures the culture and traditions of Lithuanian jazz.
The main stage of the 23rd festival, at the New Hall of the Lithuanian National Drama Theatre, will host six concerts over four days, featuring the well-known jazz masters: virtuosos of the improvised music the Jones Jones trio teaming up with the festival’s Ambassador Vladimir Tarasov, the Japanese composer and pianist Satoko Fujii’s trio, Rabih Abou-Khalil and his band transferring cultural barriers, and the latest jazz trendsetters: the heroes of the New York scene Jharis Yokley feat. BIGYUKI, the European jazz avant-garde stars Petter Eldh Post Koma, and the buoyant and mature Immanuel Wilkins Quartet. The festival will also include the most prominent figures in the British new jazz scene: Ill Considered, seed., a ten-piece band, and Binker & Moses, a saxophone and drums duo. The experimental music band Keista Bjauri Žuvis will represent the Lithuanian jazz scene at the festival.
Further 10 of the most talented bands from Lithuania and Ukraine will perform at the Small Hall of the Lithuanian National Drama Theatre on the weekend, 25-26 May. Entrance to these concerts is free.
For four days, a variety of interesting activities will create the festival ambience: meetings with jazz masters, autographs, a festival post office, a music record exchange, conversations in the festival café, a contemporary art exhibition and an international conference.
