Commemoration of Sculptor Jonas Jagėla’s 80th Anniversary and Opening of His Exhibition

We cordially invite you to the 80th anniversary commemoration of sculptor Jonas Jagėla and the opening of his exhibition “The Fight for Freedom Through the Eyes of an Artist”, which will take place on June 26 at 4:30 PM at the Tuskulėnai Memorial.

Event Program:

4:30 PM – Unveiling of a commemorative plaque honoring sculptor Jonas Jagėla on the White Manor building (Žirmūnų St. 1N).

4:45 PM – Commemoration of Jonas Jagėla’s 80th anniversary and opening of the exhibition “The Fight for Freedom Through the Eyes of an Artist” in the Tuskulėnai Memorial Conference Hall (Žirmūnų St. 1F):

– Opening remarks by Dr. Arūnas Bubnys, Director General of the Genocide and Resistance Research Centre of Lithuania.
– Presentation by Prof. Rasa Čepaitienė: “The Symbolic Landscape of Memory in the Works of Jonas Jagėla.”
– Presentation by Prof. Gintaras Čaikauskas, architect: “The Language of Silence in Jagėla’s Art.”
– Personal memories will be shared by those who knew the sculptor well: actress Kristina Kazlauskaitė, colleague Dalius Žygelis, art critic and journalist Vidmantas Jankauskas, and others who were close to him.

The exhibition “The Fight for Freedom Through the Eyes of an Artist” will be on display at the Tuskulėnai Memorial Conference Hall until August 4, 2025.
Opening hours: Tuesday–Sunday, from 10:00 AM to 4:00 PM.


Jonas Jagėla (1945–2019) was a sculptor and a member of the Lithuanian Artists’ Association and the Association of Art Creators. He was a recipient of the Order of Merit for Lithuania, Knight’s Cross.
Born on June 29, 1945, in Čivai, Kupiškis District, he studied fine metalwork at the Telšiai Applied Art School (1961–1966), and later sculpture at the Vilnius Academy of Arts (1966–1975). He began participating in exhibitions in 1976 and, from 1994, worked at the Genocide and Resistance Research Centre of Lithuania.
His work includes monumental sculptures, gravestones, portraits, and small-scale sculptures.
