The Contemporary Art Centre (CAC) stands in solidarity with the LGBTQIA+ community and, in the context of Baltic Pride 2025, on 3 June at 6pm will present the blitz exhibition ‘Where Unravelled Tongues Whisper’. Curated by Vsevolod Kovalevskij, the exhibition brings together the work of two artists – Marijonas Verbel and RB *Poodle* Moran. The interplay between their practices highlights distinct approaches to identity, culture and the creative process.
Marijonas Verbel often works with textile art and craft. To reveal the creative process itself, they exhibit notes written during the act of creation alongside their woven works – fragments that emerge spontaneously, like annotations, allowing the viewer to engage more closely with their thought process. Their textile installation Unravelled Tongues, presented in the exhibition, explores themes of language, control and personal experience, reflecting on the tension between expression and enforced silence. Influenced by both personal and political events, Verbel invites reflection on the complex relationship between identity and language.
RB *Poodle* Moran’s work investigates identity and myth through the prism of trans experience. Their work NIX explores the liminal states between presence and absence through the lens of Greek mythology and contemporary queer narratives. Merging the Icelandic pagan landscape with the Berlin queer scene, the work enacts a choreography of intimacy and connection, imbuing the process with queer agentiality.
‘Where Unravelled Tongues Whisper’ will be open until 8 June and accompanied by a programme of public events, inviting visitors to engage not only with the artworks themselves but also with the wider cultural and political contexts that inform artistic expression.
IMPORTANT: The exhibition includes a work featuring nudity. It is recommended that minors be accompanied by an adult.
MARIJONAS VERBEL (they/them, b. 2002) is a Lithuanian textile artist with a special focus on weaving and art education. In their weaving practice, they explore the relationship between time and labour, often playing along the boundary between craft and art. In 2023, they received the Antanas Tamošaitis award for their interpretation of folk traditions in creativity with the work Warp. Weft. Shuttle – The Three Weavers.
RB *POODLE* MORAN (they/them, b. 1976) is a non-binary American Icelandic artist based between Reykjavík, Los Angeles, and Berlin. They hold a BFA from the Art Institute of Chicago and have exhibited widely across Iceland, Europe and in North America. RB’s practice vocalises a soft revolution – resisting fixed positions and definitions while embracing the nuances of in-between states and mythologies of self, identity, and transformation.
VSEVOLOD SEVA KOVALEVSKIJ (b. 1988, Vilnius) is an interdisciplinary artist and curator whose work questions and reinvents perceptions of identity, memory and space. With a background in film, mixed media and installation art, the artist creates immersive experiences, turning everyday environments into provocative architectural installations for critical inquiry.
Kovalevskij’s practice is characterised by a fascination with the hidden narratives of our lives. By transforming intimate domestic spaces – especially in the gallery InTheCloset – he questions the boundaries between public and private, visible and secret. His work skilfully combines research-based insights and playful humour, inviting viewers to engage in a thoughtful yet unexpected dialogue. The artist’s projects, which explore themes of social disclosure and the politics of secrecy, encourage a radical rethinking of the familiar.
