Many Lithuanian film reels are preserved today in the central Lithuanian archive or in the homes of directors and producers. Part of the Lithuanian film heritage is being restored and shown in cinemas in Lithuania and abroad. Other films are still waiting for their turn. The goal of the “Long Live Lithuanian Cinema” cycle is to take a closer look at Lithuania’s film history and the films that have remained on its periphery.
On May 16th and 29th, the “Skalvija” Cinema Center invites you to watch the film Sadūto tūto (1974), directed by Almantas Grikevičius, which is considered one of the most emotional works by the director. The film is about the world of artists, the search for one’s path, and the creative inspiration. The main characters face creative and moral dilemmas, questioning what is more important – art or the person? Due to such themes, the film did not receive much popularity at the time. The leading roles were performed by some of the most famous actors of that period: Regimantas Adomaitis, Juozas Budraitis, Bronius Babkauskas, Eugenija Pleškytė, and Nijolė Lepeškaitė.
On May 16th, the film will be introduced by film critic Izolda Keidošiūtė.
About the film:
Petras is a sculptor, teaching drawing at school and making gravestones. After receiving a call from his old friend Povilas, he agrees to work together to decorate a sanatorium. In the area of beautiful lakes, everything initially seems almost idyllic: an old forest lodge, a manor being renovated into a sanatorium, and peaceful conversations about art among friends who are artists. However, behind this facade, a dramatic life unfolds.
