This is Arūnas Bėkšta’s eleventh solo exhibition. It presents around thirty paintings and four linocuts. Most of the works depict architectural scenes from historic towns—particularly the old towns of Vilnius and Kėdainiai—which have become a constant source of inspiration for the artist.
Arūnas Bėkšta is a multifaceted personality: a physicist, art restorer, management consultant, and in recent years—a lifelong learning expert and active folk artist. After retiring, he returned to an earlier passion: painting. Although he never studied art in his childhood or youth, he now diligently hones his skills and seeks feedback from professionals. His works are characterized by a realistic painting style, and his creative journey intensified in 2019.
The title of the exhibition—“Pavaizdai”—is borrowed from an old Lithuanian dictionary, where it was used by Konstantinas Sirvydas in 1642. According to the artist, the term aptly reflects the essence of the works: fragments of cityscapes, their atmosphere, spirit, and historical memory.
In addition to architectural motifs, the exhibition also includes works inspired by literature. These are what the artist calls “literary visions”—paintings born from fragments of poetry or prose. Among them are pieces inspired by a sonnet by A. A. Jonynas and haiku by Jack Kerouac.
This exhibition is a wonderful opportunity to explore Arūnas Bėkšta’s art, where historical settings, personal perspective, and literary imagination beautifully converge.
