The Pinnacle of Romanticism | Arthur Grigoryan (piano, Armenia)

Romantic music speaks the language of emotion—it opens a world of passion, imagination, and profound inner experience. In his solo recital The Pinnacle of Romanticism, pianist Arthuras Grigoryanas invites audiences to encounter two monumental masterpieces of the piano repertoire: Johannes Brahms’s Piano Sonata No. 1 and Franz Liszt’s Piano Sonata in B minor. Distinct in character yet equally profound and compelling, these sonatas reveal the unique spirit of the Romantic era—its drama, lyricism, and boundless musical imagination.

Arthuras Grigoryanas is an Armenian-born pianist and laureate of numerous international competitions, currently pursuing his studies at Vytautas Magnus University in Kaunas under the guidance of Professor Alexander Paley. He began his musical education in Ararat and later continued his studies at the Komitas State Conservatory of Yerevan, where he studied with Professor Armen Babakhanian.

The pianist has received prizes at numerous national and international competitions. Among his most notable achievements are victories at international piano competitions in Latvia, Estonia, Türkiye, the United Arab Emirates, and other prestigious competitions. In 2026, Arthuras Grigoryanas was awarded Second Prize at the 10th International Stasys Vainiūnas Piano Competition.

The programme of The Pinnacle of Romanticism features two works regarded as among the most monumental examples of piano music from the Romantic era:

  • Johannes Brahms (1833–1897)
Piano Sonata No. 1, Op. 1
  • Franz Liszt (1811–1886)
    Piano Sonata in B minor, S. 178
