“The Memory of Cinema: Violin in History” – This is a heartfelt musical journey through legendary films in which powerful music plays – echoing the past marked by tragedy, hope, and survival. The violin and piano duet offers a fresh perspective on the iconic melodies of famous films that have become an inseparable witness to history – both in the context of the Jewish people and humanity as a whole.
This concert is more than just a retrospective of film music. It is an emotional journey of memory that connects individual and collective experiences, telling stories of lives shattered or blossoming in the whirlpool of historical events.
The program will feature works from the films: Yiddish Mame, Fiddler on the Roof, Schindler’s List, La Vita è bella, Exodus, The Great Dictator, Sophie’s Choice, Le Dernier métro, and others.
The program includes composers: J. Yellen / M. Pollack, Jerry Bock, Michel Legrand, Charlie Chaplin, Carlos Gardel, John Williams, Mark Warshavsky, Nicola Piovani, Georges Delerue, Marvin Hamlisch, Wolf Durmashkin, Ernest Gold, and others.
Performers:
Isabelle Durin (violin) – An internationally acclaimed French violinist, she has performed on the world’s most renowned stages – from the Paris Philharmonie to Holocaust memorials in Budapest, Tel Aviv, London, and China. She is the artistic director of the festivals Les Harmonies Estivales and Château de la Motte-Tilly, blending classical music with historical sensitivity and deep human memory.
Darius Mažintas (piano) – A Lithuanian pianist whose interpretations are distinguished by subtlety, emotional depth, and expression. Having studied in Lithuania and Italy, he has performed at prestigious festivals in the USA, Germany, the Netherlands, France, and more. He is also active in educational and social areas, with performances in prisons, hospitals, and musical performances in war-torn Ukraine, broadcasted by CNN, BBC, and others. D. Mažintas is a laureate of the Lithuanian Ministry of Culture’s Young Creator award, actively contributing to the spread of classical music and humanitarian initiatives in Lithuania and abroad.
